the most striking comment on Jamaicanness was something that Olive Lewin wrote in the gleaner oped she wrote of an incident that she found humbling and made her apprciate our Jamaican people brilliance ... when she was a child she was practicing piano at her home in Clarendon that her paretns made her practice.. the yard was next to cane field... and the cane workers would come to the fence listened for hours.... One day she tried some Bach for the first time...the next day one of them shouted out "play deh one wey guh ..." and hummed the tune he had heard once.....
she made the comment that the cane workers would come and listen to her regularly and actually argue the merits of the differetn classical tuens she played... This was a time before radio was a common in Jamaica...
